1) What is Child Care
Links?
- Harford and Cecil Counties' Resource and Referral Center. We provide
resource and referral services to parents to help them find
child care and provide training and support services to
potential and current child care providers.
2) What training will I
need to become a Family Child Care Provider?
- You will need to complete a minimum of
8 hours of approved
training in any of the core knowledge areas. In addition, you must obtain skills-based CPR and
First Aid Certification suitable for the child age-ranges for
which you will provide care. Any provider caring for children
under the age of 2 years must attend a Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
workshop. All the training Child Care Links offers has been
approved by the OCC.
3) How often does a
family child care provider need to take training?
- A provider who plans to renew their registration
certificate may start taking the required training from the date
your current registration is issued. You have about 18 months to
complete the required training for renewal prior to submitting
your OCC renewal packet.
4) What are the
training requirements for family providers who wish to renew the
registration certificate?
- You will need to complete a minimum of
12 hours of
approved training in any of the core knowledge areas. In addition, your must skills-based CPR
and First Aid Certification must be up to date. Any provider
caring for children under the age of 2 years must attend a
Sudden Death Syndrome workshop. This only needs to be taken
once. All the training Child Care Links offers has been approved
by the OCC.
5) What continued
training does a General Center Director need to take?

Complete during each year of employment at least six
clock hours of approved continued training. (Please refer to the
DHR Code of Maryland Regulations Child Care Licensing for
specific instructions for a director)
6) What continued
training does a Senior Staff member, School Age Group Leader,
Assistant Group Leader, or Aids in a center need?
- Complete during each year of employment at least
three clock hours of approved continued training. (Please refer
to the DHR Code of Maryland Regulations Child Care Licensing for
specific instructions these positions)
